Happiness is

New birds coming to the yard and feeders everyday.

male Painted Bunting

Two males have been seen together.

I call the males Rainbow and the females Lemon-Lime.

female Painted Bunting

Their colorful feathers sparkle in the sunshine.

We've spotted 3 females in the yard and at the feeders.

There's a new hawk in the neighborhood.

Sharp-shinned Hawk

I believe it to be a Sharp-shinned Hawk.

But it could be a Coopers Hawk.. what do you think?

female Cowbirds

This is the first year we have Cowbirds coming by the dozens.

2 female Cowbirds on the right and 3 male on the left.

I enjoy watch the birds rather than scare them away with my camera.

I hope everyone is surviving this crazy winter weather we're having.

Spring has arrived here in south Florida :)

Our town is full to overflowing with people trying to escape the snow and ice.

time Marches on..  be Happy :)

  1. Do Was przyszła wiosna i są cudowne ptaki, którymi się możesz cieszyć i podziwiać. U nas śniegu nie ma , ale jest szaro i trochę smutno. Pozdrawiam.
Until you come spring and are wonderful birds, which they can enjoy and admire. With us there is no snow, but it is gray and a little sad. Yours.

  2. My cowbirds look different from yours- but however they look, they don't allow me to have feeders because they will eat them dry in a flash. The buntings are so pretty!

  3. same over here on our coast, we are jammed to the max. the roads leading to the beaches are impassible... these birds are absolutely beautiful. i have never seen a painted bunting or a hawk like this one. we have two different types of hawks, osprey and eagles but none like this one.. send a few buntings over here.

  7. The painted buntings are just breathtaking. Amazing colors.
I heard on the radio that the number of Minnesotans booking trips to the South and Carribean is up 78% from last year. Must say, I'm a bit envious!

  8. GREAT shots of the painteds! better than any i've ever gotten! mine won't show up until maybe april or may.

if the hawk is small like a kestrel, i'd say sharp-shinned. if it is larger, i'd say coopers.

  9. I love those buntings, they are so colorful. I've not seen any down here. The hawks look so aggressive, waiting to pounce, even though they are beautiful birds too.

Have a great day ~ FlowerLady

  16. The buntings are so pretty - I've never seen one in person. I hear that FL has been a busy state this winter! Everyone is trying to escape to the sunshine and blue skies in your photos.

  19. I love the gorgeous Painted Buntings. I would be just tickled if I had these birds in my yard. The Cooper's is an awesome sight just not for your yardbirds. Beautiful photos.

  23. Really nice photos Pam! I don't know what kind of hawk it is, but I like the name "sharp shinned" (whatever that means). I have bird envy. We don't see colorful birds where I live that often.
